In October Kirsten Sehnbruch presented her comparative research on Latin America’s quality of employment at the World Bank, hosted by the Head of the Jobs Group, Ian Walker. In her meetings, she discussed the importance of using a multidimensional methodology, based on Amartya Sen’s capability approach, to complement existing traditional measures for employment, such as participation or unemployment rates. The results can usefully inform public policymakers in developing countries to help them identify the most vulnerable workers and design social and labour policies accordingly.
